About Mono’tel Taipei:

Mono’tel is a relatively new hostel in Taipei and is situated right in the heart of the bustling Shilin area. It is an excellent option for anyone travelling solo or with a group of friends, looking for a central location within walking distance to some great hot spots.

Personally I would say Mono’tel doesn’t really fall under the “hostel” category, with it’s chic, cozy environment and the fact that it has over 25 rooms, spread out over two floors means it rarely gets crowded, ensuring you get a good nights rest and the VIP treatment from the friendly staff.

Although this is a hostel, Mono’tel want all guests to feel like they are home, comfortable and relaxed in a peaceful environment. Their logo of a bird flying back to it’s nest as well as their bird theme throughout, symbolises how guests should feel, well rested in their nests during their stay at Mono’tel.

The Reception

When you enter the Hostel on the first level you will enter the reception area, which is an incredible open space with a large co-working area, plush sofa’s and a cozy “lounging around” atmosphere.  We immediately felt right at home with the layout of the room and the natural ambience created with dim lights and quirky finer touches.

During the day you may find some tunes playing in the background, giving it a friendly vibe, while in the evening it’s quiet enough to get some work done in the various co-working spaces they have available.  If you feel more like relaxing with a movie you can pull up one of the large sofa’s, make yourself a cuppa and chill.

Everything you need after a busy day exploring all Taipei has to offer!!

The staff are super friendly and will greet you with a smile as soon as you enter the hostel. They were super helpful we pretty much left feeling like we had made new friends.  This is one thing I liked about Mono’tel that you sometimes don’t find in other hostels, the staff were generally interested, making an effort to get to know you.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is a large open plan space with everything you need from fridge, cooking facilities, crockery and even free tea and coffee 24/7. You can even watch tv on the large projector screen while you cook dinner or chill with friends.

The Rooms

Clean and modern, the rooms are spread out over two floors on the first level and on basement three. Whilst there are no window on the basement level, all rooms are spacious and airy and so you never feel like you are in the basement.

A big advantage for me in the rooms was that you sleep like a baby, with no outside noise or traffic to disturb you.

Rooms @ Mono'tel

There are a variety of rooms to choose from to suit all traveller needs, from family rooms, couple rooms and even buddy rooms. If you’re travelling solo you also have the option of the doom rooms, which are great for mingling and meeting other travellers.

Room Types:
Mixed Rooms 6/8 Persons
Male Dorm 6/8 Persons
Female Dorm 6/8 Persons

Each floor is styled somewhat like a hotel, with clean lines and modern appliances. You will soon realise what I mean about it not resembling a hostel, when you see for yourself.

The Bathrooms

Some rooms come equipped with private en-suites but most rooms offer shared bathroom facilities. The bathrooms are super spacious and complete with private toilet and shower cubicles; a variety of hair dryers, laundry facilities and huge mirrors to beautify yourself. They are impeccably clean and therefore very comfortable to use.

Why stay at Mono’tel Taipei?

The Location

When we first looked at Mono’tel on the map we were a little concerned about it’s location, however we could not have been happier with the location.

Mono’tel is situated in a vibrant area with lots going on day and night, great shopping, eateries and cafes to enjoy all sorts of Taiwanese treats.

Night Market

Shilin Night market is a stone’s through from the entrance of Mono’tel which instantly gives you 24 hour access to one of the best markets in Taipei.

My advice would be to head out just before the sun starts to set to beat the crowds, as you will soon see it gets super busy after dark and you may find yourself standing in line for almost all food stalls.

You’ll find these tasty bites deep in the heart of the market, a must try when at Shilin Night Market!

Quirky Restaurants

A must for anyone visiting Taipei is to try the famous Modern Toilet restaurant. It’s a quirky themed restaurant that will give you lots of laughs and it just happens to be conveniently located five minutes walk from Mono’tel.

With the MRT just minutes away you can access all areas of the city within a short 10-15 subway ride. Also with help from the amazingly friendly staff at Mono’tel you can get help and advice of where to go, what to see and how to get there during your stay.

Mono'tel MRT Map

If in doubt, check out their quirky MRT Map artistically displayed on the wall, designed and hand painted by a lovely French artist Hugo, who we had the opportunity to meet while staying there!

We would definitely recommend Mono’tel to anyone travelling to Taipei for a trip. We loved staying in this bustling area with everything on our door step. We will surely be back to Mono’tel the next time we visit Taipei.
