The people from Porto are very proud of their food and they love eating it also. There are many different types of dishes that are specific to Porto.  People from Porto are known as Tripeiros (tripe eaters), with the nickname dating back to the 15th century. Francesinhas – Also known as little frenchie and is the best sandwich in the world – according to everyone in Porto! It literally translates as ‘Beautiful French Girl”, and is Porto’s version of a Croque-monsieur. Back in the day women would be shamed if they ate this sandwich! Let me break it down for you, one layer of bread, cured ham, fresh sausage, steak, roast meat, another layer of bread. It’s then covered with melted cheese and drenched in a spicy beer sauce with french fries. I know you’re thinking heart attack on a plate, right! But it is simply a must when visiting Porto!
